Spain is the first country on my route. I chose this Spain as my first stop because I am travelling with my Dad to Barcelona, Granada, Sevilla, and Lisbon. I also planned to start in the south of Europe to hopefully follow the warm weather as I head north.
I have a total of 8 stops in Spain:
1. Barcelona
2. Granada
3. Sevilla
4. Santiago de Compostela
5. León
6. Gijón
7. Santander
8. San Sebastian
I chose these cities/towns primarily because they follow a logical path on the train line. I also researched a lot of them to decide which ones were most worth while. That being said, now that I am actually planning out each day, it seems that travelling by train is more difficult than I thought. Most likely because of the time of year, most trains take me out of my way and have long stop overs. I will probably be purchasing some bus tickets to save a lot of time - I'm hoping this will be the worst country for taking trains to my destinations (I read a lot about difficulties with the Spanish train system)
I also chose these destinations because they are either an iconic city or along the coast. There are plenty of 'must see' cities like Barcelona and Sevilla in Spain. Unfortunately I won't be seeing all of them. I am missing Madrid and Valencia on this trip. I believe Gijón, Santander, and San Sebastian will be amazing coastal cities with gorgeous views.
I will be writing short blogs for each destination. Stay tuned
